Out of sight out of mind?

"It's unethical to delegate something to be done that you wouldn't do yourself for ethical reasons."

Sam Harris

I could never slaughter an animal myself. Then why was it okay with me to delegate this job to someone else, out of sight, and eat it? Out of sight, out of mind?
I grew up to believe that eating animals is normal, necessary and natural.
So even though I cringed at the thought of animal cruelty and animals being butchered, I was used to eating the products made from their little dead bodies and I really liked the taste. Growing up in Germany, they have some great sausages, Schnitzel etc.
I tried to not think of the cruelty and the inevitable death of millions of animals every day for the butcher and deli counters in the supermarket to be fully stocked every day.
In every area of my life I try to be as conscious and educated as possible and always want to get to the bottom of things, but this area I avoided, because I knew I wouldn't like what I'd find. And I knew I would have to give up some of my favourite foods once I saw where the meat comes from. So I avoided the topic, but it was always in the back of my mind.
After meeting several vegans and realizing that they can eat delicious food too and are healthy, I finally faced the truth.
What I witnessed was horrendous. Unimaginable. Heart-breaking. Soul-crushing. Devastating.
I realized that hell exist. Right here. Every second of every minute of every hour of every day. Humans are inflicting it on innocent beings in the name of taste and tradition.
I got very angry at humanity and felt so much grief and remorse. So much guilt for having been the person who paid people to do this to the animals, so much shame for not having had this realization sooner.
I stopped that day.

We all can.

Thanks to ethical plantbased companies like Fry's Family Foods, Tofurky, Gardein, Field Roast, Beyond Meat and many more, this German gal now enjoys vegan sausages and Schnitzel. And, oh boy, do they taste good!

Please feel free to message me anytime for info on how to ditch all animal products and therefore ditch the cruelty.

Meat industry makes workers violent?

The meat industry does not only destroy the animals' lives, it destroys the workers' lives as well. Most suffer from STSD (Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder) from witnessing and inflicting violence every day, and as a result resort to drugs, alcohol and violence against their families and others.
Humans are naturally compassionate and kind beings who want to protect the innocent from harm.
Intentionally causing harm to thousands of animals every day is soul-crushing. The animals come up to them and want to snuggle them, and they have to force them onto the kill floor or slit their throats.
Some people start enjoying this violence and become outright abusive and torture the animals intentionally.
Others have no other option but to work this job, as it pays well and their family depends on the income.
Vegan organizations are starting to offer transitional job programs to help workers get away from these jobs that traumatize them and their families.
But the biggest power lies with us and our buying power.
If we demand products that require this atrocious violence to be used on innocent beings, then there will be people doing horrendous jobs like this.
If we demand kind and compassionate products (Tofurky, Gardein, Earth Balance, Field Roast etc.) that use grains and beans to make vegan meats, we have psychologically sane workers who help produce nutritionally dense, protein-rich products.

What kind of world do you want to help create?
